Woof, woof, it’s National Puppy Day! Followed closely in popularity by National Kitten Day on July 10th and then steamrolled by National Donut Day on June 2nd. Or in a perfect world…walking a litter of puppies to your corner donut shop with a kitten in hand. Yes, then it’s perfect and it doesn’t matter what day it is!
While our furry babies are being celebrated today for their cutest phase ever, we love to include man’s best friend in all the portraits we offer, from studio work to outdoor portrait sessions. Or, in portrait sessions of their very own. You might scoff at the idea, but trust me…there are plenty of wonderful people that adore their furry babies and delight in the art that we can create for them, such as the beautiful paintings of the dachshund and the chocolate lab shown.
Some fun facts about our pets…it’s estimated that there are 78 Million dogs that are owned in the United States. And did you know that 44% of all households have dogs! According to the American Kennel Club, the Labrador Retriever is the most popular breed of dog.
One question we always try to ask when scheduling family portraits or senior portraits is whether or not there are any furry babies that should be taken into account. We understand that there is such a short window while we have the pleasure of our furry babies company and we feel very strongly about including them in the portraits we create. Even more so when the children in the family have a strong connection to the pets at home.
So a quick roundup of what furry (and non-furry!!) critters we’ve photographed over our many years of experience….dogs, cats, horses, guinea pigs, birds, goats, cows, chickens, lizards, snakes, turtles and fish. And yes, all things were alive and slithery or slobbery!
Do you have a critter at home and maybe it’s never crossed your mind to have a portrait made with them? Are they a part of your life? Maybe they should be included! 🙂
